Kaitao Speech Competitions!

Finally the speech competition is around the corner! Its sure going to be a hard working 4 weeks for the students here.
Last year Room 1 did extremely well in the speech competition.
Our year 8s, we had Tayla F. Come in 2nd, and Sophia come an equal 3rd.
Our year 7s, Rochelle won, and we had Caitlin come 3rd.
We are proud of them and we hope to do so well if not better again this year!

Students in Room 1

Room 1 students get along with each other. We have good sportsmanship. We are kind to each other and follow the school motto "To blossom within the family concept."
Mr. Dyke is our teacher and he has been for 2 years now. We are a class with both year 7 and 8.
We are 1 of 3 Accelerate classes. We have our own P.E time though. We have the head boy and head girl in room 1. We also have various leaders and house captains in our class. Our teacher Mr. Dyke is the Numeracy leader in the school. He makes us work on maths for more than 1 hour a day. Usually straight away in the morning after fitness and roll call.

House Swimming Competition

One sunny Friday the school went down to the Aquatic Centre Rotorua to compete in a house swimming competition. The houses are BOSSON!, REID!, SOLOMON! And MORRISON. Go Bosson!!! It was a great day run by Ms.Solomon and our Challenge academy leader Mrs.Hartley.

It was a non competitive event so that more students would have a go. Also the competitive swimmers got involved so it was a fun day for all, Even teachers got in the pool to earn their house, House points.

The events involved:
Do a lap with a Hula Hoop,
Hold a ball on your head,
Freestyle,
Breaststroke,
Plainly walking/running

If the students weren't in the pool they would be doing their house chant or supporting their friends and other house members in the pool.

The day turned out well and it was a friday well spent...

Noho Marae

On the morning of the Marae Trip, we went to the Whare at Waiariki Institution of Technology, and met Mr.Keith Kennedy who had given us, the Kaitao Students a Powhiri. All of the Students, Parents and Teachers enjoyed the day at Waiariki and Te Puia, but sadly Mrs.Vaughan was not there.
